Music Scores 2022 - The Sky Speaks to Me

  • Festival of the Sound 1 Avenue Road Parry Sound, ON, P2A 2A6 Canada (map)

Music Scores 2022 introduces our one week residency "The Sky Speaks to Me"!

With Samantha Whelan-Kotkas, Mark Limacher, Walter MacDonald White Bear and Chloe Weston

An interactive educational and musical galactic experience where students will have the opportunity to explore their creativity through poetry and music. Inspired by the poem My Heart Soars by Chief Dan George and incredible images of space and stars taken by the James Webb Telescope, students will work with the artists to create a work of poetry and music that will be featured in two final performances on December 2nd at the Stockey Centre in Parry Sound.

Music Scores Artist Samantha Whelan-Kotkas shares with us her inspiration for this residency below:

"We are all really inspired by the new James Webb telescope and the new images we are seeing from it. These images show us parts of the Universe humans have never seen. When you look at the images you can’t help but be curious, and if you are a musician you can’t help but put the images to music. Even the scientists working with the telescope have already invited musicians to make videos using sound with some of the more extraordinary images like the Cosmic Cliffs in the Carina Nebula."

We can’t wait to see what our artists create with the students of Parry Sound!
